The Who remain one of the biggest bands in the world today and are one of the biggest rock bands to ever come out of Britain. So in a year when the Olympics will be coming to their native London it seems fitting that one of the bands members has been invited to play at the ceremony. The only problem is that the member in question is no longer alive and actually left this mortal coil way back in 1978.
Planet Rock digital radio station broke the story on their website as follows:-
Never have we wanted a story to be true more than this one - the Metro reports that in a brand new interview with the Sunday Times, The Who's manager Bill Curbishley revealed that he had been approached by the organisers of the Olympics to see if Keith Moon "would be available" to play at one of the musical events this summer.
"I emailed back saying Keith now resides in Golders Green crematorium, having lived up to the Who's anthemic line 'I hope I die before I get old'," said Curbishley. "If they have a round table, some glasses and candles, we might contact him."
Research is the key it would seem, unless the person who came up with the idea was cryogenically frozen a a la Austin Powers style and has only just realised that it is no longer the 1960's. Let's hope that his fellow deceased drummer John Bonham of Led Zeppelin isn't their second choice! Keith Moon (pictured above far left) was a crazy, unique character and an excellent drummer. The Muppets character Animal is largely based on Moon's hyperactive stage persona. Unlike Animal, he is longer available for hire, because he is no more and has ceased to be.
