It seems fitting that on a day when Cardiff City fans have all stopped to remember former manager Eddie May, the current Cardiff City team returned to winning ways with an excellent 1-0 away win at Barnsley this afternoon. On loan Portsmouth midfielder Liam Lawrence (pictured middle) headed in the winner with 20 minutes remaining to secure a vital three points in the race to reach the Championship play offs.
Three games remain for City to secure themselves a place in the top six and at the moment they are currently in 6th place, which is the final play off spot. Middlesbrough are the closest side to them after they won 1-0 away to Derby County this afternoon, but they trail City by two points. City know that they only have to keep winning and there is no reason why they can't. The next two games are at home with Derby County and Leeds United coming to Cardiff City Stadium this week. It would be great if City could secure their play off place before the final game of the season away to Crystal Palace. Last season many people thought that City would walk the division because of the likes of Craig Bellamy, Jay Bothroyd and Michael Chopra, but they failed to gel as a team. This years team has the team work ethic that was missing last year and whilst it may not have the "X factor" of last years star studded team, they are beginning to rediscover the early season form that made them one of the leading sides in this years Championship. Hopefully by this time next week I will be celebrating the City reaching the play offs and maybe, just maybe seeing the team reach Wembley for another crack at reaching the Premiership. C'mon City!
